Career Possibilities

Graduates of our department have various employment options. They can participate in civil service examinations at different levels, leading to positions in administrative units such as the Agricultural Department of the Executive Yuan, the Fisheries Agency of the Agricultural Department of the Executive Yuan, the Fisheries Research Institute of the Agricultural Department of the Executive Yuan, the Ocean Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan, the Coast Guard Administration of the Ocean Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan, the Marine Conservation Division of the Ocean Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan, the National Academy of Marine Research of the Ocean Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan, and the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan. They can also serve in various public service units.

Alternatively, graduates can take examinations for fisheries associations at different levels to work in fisheries associations. They may also pursue advanced studies or work as research assistants in relevant academic research and educational institutions. Furthermore, employment opportunities exist in marine-related industries. Currently, the department has added two examination subjects, "Marine Administration" and "Marine Technology," for graduates to choose from in the civil service examinations.

  1. Advanced studies: PhD in marine policy related degree in Taiwan and other countries
  2. Academic studies: Marine related academic research and educational institutions - Academia Sinica, Fisheries Research Institute, National Taiwan Ocean University, National Kaohsiung Marine University, Maritime Vocational High School, Marine Museum of Science and Technology
  3. Industries: Marine and fisheries consultants, farmers’ and fishermen’s association, fisheries companies, fish trade companies, fisheries material companies, aquafeeds manufactures, aquaculture companies, marine engineering companies, aquariums etc.
  4. Citizen services: Administration and officers - Coast Guard Administration, Fisheries Agency, local governments, marine museums, marine educational institutions, maritime vocational schools etc.
  5. Other non-governmental groups or organizations in marine, fisheries and tourism (eg. Taiwan Fisheries Sustainable Development Association)
