National Taiwan Ocean University Institute of Marine Affairs and Resource Management Master Program Academic Regulations

Article 1 These regulations are in accordance with the Study Regulations of National Taiwan Ocean University and relevant regulations.

Article 2 Matters related to the admission, enrollment preservation, registration, study period, leave of absence, re-enrollment, examinations, and leaving school will be subject to the Study Regulations of National Taiwan Ocean University and these regulations.

Article 3 Students who qualified for the master program entrance examination of National Taiwan Ocean University will be allowed to study in the Institute of Marine Affairs and Resource Management. International students who apply for admission to our institute need to be preliminary reviewed by the Institute Affairs Meeting and then approved by the International Student Review Committee.

Article 4 Students who select the course must in accordance with the Study Regulations, Student Course Selection Regulations and other relevant regulations of National Taiwan Ocean University. The study period for a master’s program is one to four years and part-time postgraduate students may extend the study period for one more year. Students who study the Five-Year Integrated Bachelor-Master Program will be in accordance with the regulations of Five-Year Integrated Bachelor-Master Program of National Taiwan Ocean University.

Article 5 The requirement of graduation for master students, in addition to thesis, is 24 credits; students must complete required courses for 8 credits, elective courses for 16 credits within the study period. A diploma in Master of Science will be offered when students pass the oral thesis examination. Students can apply for the selection of courses in other departments/institutes or in other universities no more than two courses or six credits during the study period. If there’s any particular situation, students must have the agreement from their thesis advisor and director of the institute. International students must select the Chinese courses which are in accordance with the regulation of course selection in National Taiwan Ocean University.

Article 6 Students should first decide the “tentative thesis advisor” for guiding the selection of course within the two weeks of the beginning of the first semester. Those who 3 cannot decide the “tentative thesis advisor” within two weeks must designated by director. Before the end of the first semester, students must decide the thesis advisor and sign the “Application Form of Thesis Advisor”, and approved by director, and then submit to the institute office for reference. If students want to change the thesis advisor later on, they should fill up the “Application Form of Thesis Advisor Alteration” and approved by the tentative thesis advisor and new thesis advisor.

Article 7 The degree examination will be organized in accordance with the Regulations of Master’s and Doctoral Degrees Examination of National Taiwan Ocean University. Students who apply for the Master Degree Examination must fill up two copies of the “Application Form of Thesis Examination” and “List of Thesis Examination Committee” and submit to the institute office within the deadline according the Academic Calender of National Taiwan Ocean University. The oral defense must be held before the end of the semester of applying for graduation, otherwise, a cancellation from the oral defense must be submitted. If one doesn’t complete the procedure of cancel, it would be regarded as a fail on examination.

Article 8 After the degree examination is passed and the revise of thesis are approved by thesis advisor, students should upload the thesis to “The NTOU Electronic Theses & 4 Dissertations” and sign up the “Thesis Commitment Authorization Form”, and review for approval, and then one can apply for the procedure of leaving school. Students who apply for the procedure of leaving school most not only submit one copy of theirs with the original signature of oral defense committee to the Division of Registration and Curriculum of the Office of the Academic Affairs, but also an extra (including electronic file) to Office of Library and Information Technology and office of institute.

Article 9 These Regulations will be implemented after being passed by the Academic Affairs Meeting of National Taiwan Ocean University. These Regulations are adopted in Chinese, which shall prevail in case of any discrepancy between the English translation and the Chinese original.
